Underground Hydrogen Storage Workshop

October 18, 2022

2 December 2022, 8:30am-5pm, 137 St George’s Terrace

Hydrogen is an important element in the energy transition and meeting aspirations of global decarbonisation. To facilitate the development and deployment of a hydrogen supply chain, largescale hydrogen storage is of vital importance. Underground Hydrogen Storage (UHS) offers the
potential for large volume storage to normalise cyclic production from renewable sources, and seasonal variations in energy demand.

This industry-led workshop aims to identify current state-of-the-art knowledge gaps and uncertainties in the application of UHS within Australia. Focusing on the storage integrity and storage performance of porous media, the workshop’s intentions are to identify and discuss subsurface properties and processes which may impact field scale development. We believe that the workshop will provide a forum for collaboration and discussion on the way-forward for validation and demonstration of UHS as a commercially competitive storage option.
