Plans for the Future Energy Exports CRC (“FEnEx CRC”) to develop its flagship Kwinana Energy Transformation Hub (“KETH”) project has reached a major milestone with the Western Australian Planning Commission approving the KETH development design and the associated Development Application.
The KETH project will deliver a multi-user, open-access technology testbed that provides a low-risk live environment for demonstrating new technologies and processes as well as training facilities for the hydrogen, decarbonization, and energy transition sectors. The KETH project is supported by funds from the Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Program and a grant from the Government of Western Australia through its Investment Attraction Fund.
Eric May, CEO of the FEnEx CRC, said, “The approval to commence engineer-procure-construct (EPC) activity for the KETH R&D facilities is a major milestone for our flagship project. This building will be the cornerstone of the Kwinana Energy Transformation Hub, which allows us to help innovators overcome the well-known ‘valley of death’ associated with technology commercialisation. It will also provide use with a venue for training and education in this emerging sector. I am grateful for the support of the Western Australian Government whose Investment Attraction Fund grant is central to establishing this new facility for research, demonstration and training in clean energy.”
FEnEx CRC aims to start construction by mid-2025 and commence operation by mid-2026.
